Woman, 58, arrested over 'concealed birth' 38 years ago

A woman has been arrested over an alleged concealment of a birth 38 years ago.

The 58-year-old has been bailed by South Wales Police while inquiries continue.

Officers said the baby was reported to have been born in 1976.

Swansea Evening Post said the investigation is focused on a house in Pontardawe, near Rhos Meadow service station but does not involve the family currently at the address.

A police spokesman said: "South Wales Police is conducting investigations into information received relating to an alleged concealment of a birth reported to have taken place in 1976.

"The senior coroner for Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot has been informed.

"A 58 year old woman from the Swansea area has been arrested and released on police bail pending further enquiries.

"The family currently living at the property are not connected to the enquiry and the media are asked to respect their privacy at this time."
