Two arrests after pedestrian dies at Gwaun Cae Gurwen

Police have arrested two drivers after a 72-year-old man died following a collision with a car at Neath Port Talbot.

Gwyn Edwards died at the scene of the incident at Brynamman Road, Gwaun Cae Gurwen, on Wednesday at 16:20 GMT.

Police are appealing for witnesses, saying the man was in collision with a blue Vauxhall Corsa driven by a 19-year-old man who has been arrested.

A 25-year-old driver of a black Proton has also been arrested.

South Wales Police closed the road for a short time outside Cwmgors Rugby Club to carry out initial investigations and recover the vehicles.

They said the man died despite the first aid efforts of local people and paramedics.

Mr Edwards's family paid tribute to him in a statement released through the police.

"Gwyn was a gentleman and was well liked by everyone who met him.

"He was a private but forthright character who had a large family, over whom he was very protective.

"Gwyn was well loved and will be sadly missed by his family and friends."
