Swansea councillor cleared over 'past it' comments

A Swansea councillor who claimed some members of the local authority aged over 60 were "past it" has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Conservative group leader Rene Kinzett was reported to the public services ombudsman for Wales for his comments.

He also described the ruling coalition as the "political diaspora" of Swansea and two cabinet members as "useless".

It was claimed he broke the code of conduct for councillors but Swansea's standards board cleared him.

Mr Kinzett, who represents the Mayals ward, said the ombudsman should have thrown out the complaint brought by two fellow councillors.
