Man, 22, critical after 'unprovoked' Swansea assault

A man suffered a fractured skull when he was struck by one of a group of moped riders in an "unprovoked" attack, say police.

The 22-year-old was said to be "critical but stable" in hospital after the incident in Swansea on Saturday.

Officers said the man was discovered on Quay Parade by a passing motorist at around 1050 BST.

Witnesses are asked to contact Swansea Central CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Det Insp Peter Doyle said detectives believed the man was struck by one of a group of nine moped riders who approached him from the direction of Wind Street.

"They then rode off towards Eastside leaving the victim with serious head injuries," he said.

"He has undergone surgery and his condition is critical but stable.

"At this stage we are treating this as an unprovoked attack and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or who knows the identity of the moped riders to come forward."
