Fire at Cwmbran's Football Factory 'devastates' locals

Local people have been left "devastated" after a large fire gutted an indoor sports facility in Torfaen.

Fire investigation work to establish the cause of the blaze at The Football Factory on Avondale Industrial Estate, Cwmbran, has yet to start as the structure has been deemed unsafe.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service received a call-out shortly before 18:50 GMT on Saturday.

At the height of the fire, six fire engines were at the scene.

Resident Danielle Healey, 25, visited the scene to see the damage for herself and said: "It's terrible. I feel sorry for all the children that use the place."

"It's sad, really sad", agreed Kersty Perry, 36. "Local business has been affected by the fire, and it's not just one business, it's several local businesses."

Derryn O'Rourke, 16, who used to attend the facility for rugby training. said: "It's quite devastating.

"Lots of people use this and it's not nice to see in your local community."
