Woman dies and man hurt in two-car A4048 Markham crash

A woman has died and a man taken to hospital following a crash in Caerphilly county.

Gwent Police said the crash, involving a Vauxhall Astra and a Volkswagen Polo, happened at about 15:50 GMT on Wednesday on the A4048 near Markham.

The 67-year-old woman from Caerphilly was pronounced dead at the scene and the 55-year-old man from Crosskeys was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff with serious injuries.

The road closed but has since reopened.

Police said the 55-year-old man, who had been a passenger in the Polo, was in a stable condition.

The driver of the Polo, a 20-year-old man from the Crosskeys area, was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital with minor injuries.
