A man from Cardiff has been charged over alleged sexual offences against children said to have been committed at a mosque in the city.

Mohammed Haji Sadiq, 80, from Cyncoed, taught at the Madina mosque between 1976 and 2006.

The alleged offences involve four girls and are said to have happened at the Madina mosque between 1996 and 2006.

Charges include eight assaults of a girl under 13 by touching and seven indecent assaults on a girl under 14.

Mr Sadiq was charged at Cardiff Bay police station and has been released on police bail. He is due to appear before Cardiff magistrates on 16 December.

"There are a number of support agencies available to anyone who wishes them to be their point of contact if they have any concerns."

"I want to reassure anyone who is thinking of getting in contact with us or any other support agency that all information will be treated in the strictest confidence and that you will be listened to and supported."

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101.
