Cardiff's Whitchurch Hospital shuts to patients after 108 years

Whitchurch Hospital in Cardiff is to close to as a mental health unit to patients after 108 years on Friday.

The last of 130 patients will transfer to the new Hafan Y Coed unit at Llandough in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The new facilities are the centrepiece of a £88m revamp of the University Hospital Llandough site.

The unit, which opened in March, will focus on providing a modern, therapeutic and recovery-focused environment.
