Driver charged after pedestrians hurt in Merthyr Tydfil

A man has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm after a car collided with two female pedestrians in Merthyr Tydfil.

The women, aged 19 and 21, suffered serious injures following the incident in The Rink area of the town at about 02:45 BST on Saturday.

They remain at Prince Charles Hospital.

South Wales Police said the 37-year-old man also faces an assault and drink-driving charge and will appear before the town's magistrates on Monday.

The force added a black Renault Megane was recovered from the scene for forensic examination and inquiries were continuing.
