A dental practice has warned patients who weigh more than 20st (127kg) they may not be treated because of a weight restriction on their chairs.
Maendy Dental Practice, Aberdare, Rhondda Cynon Taff, has issued the advice for "health and safety reasons" in routine letters to patients.
Bosses said people affected would be referred to hospital for treatment.
The 2014 Welsh Health Survey found 58% of adults were overweight or obese, including 22% obese.
The letter states: "Please note the dental chair has a weight limit restriction.
"If the chair cannot operate or move properly then we regret to inform you that we will be unable to treat you at the practice due to health and safety reasons.
"In these circumstances arrangements can be made for you to be referred to a hospital who are better equipped."
The advice is included in routine letters to all patients when recalling them for regular examinations.
