Woman and dog in River Ogmore rescue at Bridgend

A woman and her dog have been rescued from the River Ogmore in Bridgend.

The woman had gone in after her 14 month-old Rottweiler, which had got into difficulty at Newbridge Fields near Bridgend Recreation Centre at about 12:50 GMT on Friday.

A passer-by raised the alarm and specialist fire crews used ropes to pull the woman to safety.

She was taken to hospital for a check-up before being allowed home.

A Welsh ambulance service spokesperson said: "We were called at 12.58pm to reports a woman was attempting to retrieve her dog from a river near Angel Street, Bridgend.

"Two rapid response vehicles and the hazardous area response team were dispatched to the scene, and the woman was given a precautionary check-up."
