No suspect in Blaengarw terraced homes fire

Police investigating a house fire that has left a woman critically ill in hospital say they are not looking for anyone else.

The blaze swept through Railway Terrace in Blaengarw, Bridgend county, at around 0034 GMT on Saturday.

Eight neighbouring properties were evacuated of 20 resident, although most people have been allowed back.

South Wales Police and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service have carried out a joint investigation into the blaze.

Maesteg Neighbourhood Inspector Ralph Harris said: "We would like to thank members of the local community for the excellent way they have all pulled together following this incident.

"There has been an exceptional strength of character amongst the local population and it this strength that has enabled the community to cope with such an incident."

The woman who is in hospital is a critical, but stable, condition.
