Ex-Merthyr FC changing room damaged by blaze

A changing room at the former home of Merthyr Tydfil Football Club has been badly damaged by fire, say emergency services.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was confined to the two-storey room.

Crews from Merthyr, Aberdare and Rhymney were called to Penydarren Park at 0149 BST on Sunday.

Fire chiefs said it was thought to have been accidental. Now called Merthyr Town, the club play at Taffs Well.

Merthyr are currently top of the Toolstation Western League Division One and had been playing away at Devizes in Wiltshire on Saturday.
