School transport changes proposed on Anglesey
Changes to school transport on Anglesey have been proposed by council leaders.
They include stopping buses to two primary schools for pupils living less than two miles away in Pentre Berw and Porth Amlwch.
Officials said the arrangements for Ysgol Esceifiog and Ysgol Gynradd Amlwch, were "historical ones" and the change would bring them in line with other schools as well as saving £25,000 a year.
Changes would come in next September.
Other proposals include:
- Raising the cost of transport for under three miles for 2015/16 from £60 to £80
- The charge for post-16 students would be £90
- The "out of catchment area" fee for pupils' transport would be £150 every academic year.
The council says this would bring what pupils pay in line with true costs.
A "no pass, no travel" policy has also been suggested so all pupils would need bus passes.
Pupils are currently allowed to pay on buses but the council says this makes it difficult to ensure seats are available for every pupil.
