Caernarfon Airport plane crashed after loss of control
A 61-year-old student pilot died after he apparently lost control of the microlight plane he was flying, an air accident report says.
Ashley Hazelwood, from Kinmel Bay in Conwy county, had taken off from Caernarfon Airport in good weather on 15 May in a two-seat Gemini Flash II.
But the report said the microlight turned 180 degrees and crashed into the ground.
An instructor said there appeared to be no attempt to control a left turn.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) report said the plane was found to be in a "fully serviceable" condition and the Gemini had been flown that morning on a check flight.
It also said Mr Hazelwood had previously demonstrated he could control the microlight to a "good standard".
A medical investigation could find no evidence of an incapacitating condition but it did not rule out the possibility that Mr Hazelwood had been taken suddenly unwell.
