A high school in Gwynedd has been hit by an outbreak of a sickness bug.

Ysgol Brynrefail in Llanrug remains open but pupils and staff with symptoms have been advised to stay home for 48 hours after getting better.

Public Health Wales and Gwynedd Council's education unit are helping the school to deal with the situation.

A council spokesperson confirmed an "unusual number of pupils are off ill" from the school which has over 780 pupils.

Parents received an email from the school saying: "There are cases of stomach illness at the school today with more pupils than usual.

"The strong advice to parents is to keep pupils who are suffering from symptoms such as a high temperature, headache, vomiting and/or diarrhoea at home and for them to remain at home for 48 hours after the illness has subsided."
