Two divers have been found safe after a search was launched when they failed to return to their boat.

The pair were found by a helicopter rescue crew just before 18:00 BST, five hours after they were reported missing by support crew in a boat near South Stack lighthouse, Holyhead, Anglesey

Multiple coastguard and RNLI crews, and a team from RAF Valley on the island, joined the search.

They were found unharmed some way from where they had gone into the water.

At the height of the search, the RNLI's Ray Steadman said rescue teams had been covering a large area from the lighthouse south to Trearddur Bay.

"It's a bit of water you can get to without being in a boat," he said.

"It's quite a nasty piece of water - it's on a corner and huge tides come round.

"Sea conditions will be a bit of a chop."
