Power restored to 900 properties in Gwynedd

Power has been restored to 900 homes and businesses in Gwynedd left without electricity after Monday's gales.

ScottishPower said the properties affected were mainly on the Llyn peninsula.

On Boxing Day around 20,000 properties in Anglesey and Gwynedd lost their power after 109mph winds.

Forecasters predict more bad weather ahead with a warning of heavy rain for south Wales on Wednesday.

On Monday stormy weather caused travel disruption with trees toppling in high winds and heavy rain causing localised flooding on roads and the rail network.

One flood warning and 10 flood alerts remain in place across Wales.

Revellers out celebrating the new year may well avoid a drenching on Tuesday evening, but further rain and gales are expected to mark the start of 2014.

Forecasters said south Wales was included in a yellow 'be aware' warning for heavy rain on Wednesday.

They say it could add to the misery faced by householders already attempting a clear-up because the ground is already saturated and could flood again.
