A470 Dolgellau bus fire: Children escape unhurt
Eight children have escaped unhurt after a bus caught fire in Gwynedd.
The youngsters were on their way from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Ysgol y Gadar at Dolgellau when the vehicle burst into flames on the A470 near Llanelltyd.
Fire crews were called to the scene at 08:43 GMT and brought the blaze under control in 45 minutes.
The children were led to safety to a nearby roadworks compound and were later picked up and taken to their lessons by the school minibus.
A school spokeswoman said they were alerted when one of the pupils phoned his father to tell him about the incident.
"The children were taken to a safe place away from the bus," she said.
"Once we had the call from the boy's father, we were able to send out the school mini bus and pick them up.
"Thankfully, no one was hurt and they've all gone into their lessons this morning."
She said the school had arranged for all the pupils to ring their families to let them know that they were safe.
North Wales Police and the ambulance service were also called to the incident.
The bus, belonging to Express Motors of Penygroes, was burnt out.
A Gwynedd council spokesperson said: "A commercial bus service travelling on the A470 towards Dolgellau was affected this morning due to fire.
"North Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene. No one was injured in the incident.
"The road in the Gelligemlyn area has re-opened."
It is not known whether there were other passengers as well as the school children on board.
