Gwynedd woman banned from keeping animals for 10 years

A woman who loved her dog refused to take it to the vet because she knew it would be put down, a court heard.

Lauraine Jones, 41, admitted causing unnecessary suffering by failing to obtain veterinary care.

Jones of Moel Gwyl, Llan Ffestiniog, Gwynedd, was banned from keeping animals for 10 years and ordered to pay £85 costs.

Llandudno magistrates' court heard the dog, called Sian, suffered in the final months of her life.

Tudur Owen, prosecuting for the RSPCA, said pictures of the emaciated terrier-type dog were the worst he had seen.

Mr Owen said an RSPCA inspector was told the animal had been very ill at Jones' home and had to be put down by a vet.

The court heard that Jones appeared to care about the dog and became very upset when told Sian would not get better.

Michael Strain, defending, said Jones loved the dog, and had tried nursing her through her illness.
