Demolition work has started on 22 homes deemed too expensive to bring up to standard by Denbighshire council.

The three-bed prefabricated properties on Ffordd Ty Newydd and Rhodfa Hendre, Meliden, were built in 1973 and had been earmarked for renovation in 2012.

However, they were found to need "significant investment" so the authority decided to consult with residents who have since been rehoused.

There are no immediate plans to reuse the land, said the council.

Denbighshire's cabinet member for housing, Councillor Hugh Irving, said the properties were "beyond economic repair and below the living standard we expect for our residents".
