Four primary schools in Powys could close and be replaced by two new ones.

The future of Ysgol Maesydre, Gungrog Nursery and Infant Church in Wales School, Ardwyn Nursery and Infant School, and Oldford Nursery and Infant School is currently be reviewed.

If plans are agreed, a new English-medium Church in Wales school could be built near Welshpool High School.

A new Welsh-medium primary school could also be created at the current Ysgol Maesydre site.

Parents have until 18 October to comment on the plans and a public meeting will be held at the town's high school on 20 September.

Proposals to close the existing schools and build new ones have already been accepted by the Welsh Government under its 21st Century Schools programme.

On Tuesday, Powys council formally agreed to close Nantmel Church in Wales school in Llandrindod Wells, which has fewer than 50 pupils, on 31 December.
