Aberystwyth school teachers to hold one-day strike
Pupils have been told to stay at home due to a one-day strike by teachers at an Aberystwyth secondary school.
The action at Ysgol Penweddig on Friday will affect pupils from years 7 to 10.
Parents were informed by post over the Christmas period, but were told years 11 to 13 should attend school as normal.
Union officials say the strike is due to "adverse management practices, abuse of disciplinary procedures and increasing workload demands".
A statement from Ceredigion council said: "This is highly regrettable, particularly since strike action should only be taken as a last resort.
"No request has been made by the union to seek a resolution to the concerns of its members prior to taking strike action."
Rex Phillips, from the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers, said "The union remains willing to engage in genuine discussions to resolve the dispute and avoid strike action."
