Tributes to St Dogmaels' sub-postmistress Yvonne Wiltshire

Tributes have been paid after the death of a village sub-postmistress who provided services for the people of Cardigan for the last month after the post office closed.

St Dogmaels' sub-postmistress Yvonne Wiltshire died on Thursday.

The Post Office said Mrs Wiltshire, who had taken on extra work after the Cardigan office closed on 20 December, was "hard-working and dedicated".

Cardigan Post Office is due to reopen later this week.

A Post Office spokesman said: "Yvonne was a much respected, hard-working and dedicated sub-postmistress.

'Tremendous loss'

"Everyone at the Post Office is shocked and saddened to hear the news and our thoughts are with Yvonne's family and friends at this difficult time."

Mrs Wiltshire was a former chairman of St Dogmaels' community council.

Cardigan councillor, Catrin Miles, said: "Yvonne's passing is a tremendous loss to her family, friends and the close community of which she was an invaluable member."

The Post Office said Cardigan's High Street branch had closed due to 'unforeseen circumstances'.

Talks between the Post Office and Ceredigion council for a temporary cabin replacement have started.

The spokesman said the branch will now re-open with a temporary sub-postmaster 'on Monday or Tuesday'.

He added: "We know how our customers rely on their Post Office service and we are really sorry for any inconvenience caused whilst the branch has been closed."
