Newtown swimming pool reopens after £92,000 makeover

A swimming pool has reopened after undergoing a major makeover to improve facilities for people with disabilities.

The refurbishment of the 30-year-old pool at Maldwyn Leisure Centre in Newtown, Powys, includes improved access for disabled people.

A new changing area for people with disabilities has also been built, as has a sauna.

The work had cost £92,000, and the pool was closed for a month.

The pool has also been re-tiled as part of the work.

Councillor Gwyn Gwillim, who is responsible for leisure services, said: "I am delighted to see the pool re-opening after major improvement work.

"This popular centre now has even more to offer and I look forward to seeing further improvements in the near future."

Work has also started to up grade the centre's athletics area and is expected to be completed by April.
