Côr Meibion Talgarth founder's delight at MBE honour
The conductor of Côr Meibion Talgarth who founded the male voice choir in Powys 41 years ago is an MBE.
Morwen Pugh said she could not believe she had been recognised in the New Year's Honours list.
Other figures from mid Wales to feature include David Walter Jones of Cardigan for services to ploughing.
Dr John Fish of Aberystwyth University is also an MBE for services to the fishing industry and marine environment.
Retired music teacher Mrs Pugh said: "I was shocked."
She paid tribute to the members of the choir, who performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London last year.
"Where would I be without my boys?" she said.
"I don't have a baton but I have two impressive hands.
"I say one word before the performance, 'passion.' They're a wonderful bunch of boys and I love them all."
Marine biologist Dr Fish specialises in research on the distribution, feeding, growth and life-cycles of a range of species.
Recent work has included tagging and tracking giant leatherback turtles in the Caribbean as part of an international study.
