Kent driver jailed after girl's death in Powys
A motorist has been jailed for two years for causing the death by careless driving of a teenager at a beauty spot.
Brian Johnson, 45, from Belvedere, Kent, admitted the charge following a crash involving a 4x4 vehicle near Llyn Brianne, Powys, on 5 September 2008.
Louise Ferreira, 17, from Thamesmead, south-east London, was on holiday with friends, celebrating her exam results.
Johnson was also banned from driving for three years when sentenced at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court.
Louise was travelling in the 4x4 vehicle which overturned into a river close to Llyn Brianne, which is near Llanwrtyd Wells.
In a family statement following her death, Louise's mother said she had been on holiday to celebrate her "excellent" exam results.
The statement added: "She was so loving towards her family, so funny and would make us all laugh.
"My golden girl. I'll miss her forever, a part of me died with her.
"She always wanted to go so far in life, and never asked for anything in return and always aimed high. She never gave up."
The teenager was taken to Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth following a rescue operation which involved three helicopters.
