Tributes have been paid to "a much loved family man" who died in a crash which closed a major road for seven hours.

A black Land Rover Discovery crashed on the A40 between Abergavenny and Glangrwyney, known as Brecon Road, in Monmouthshire.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Wednesday at 02:00 BST after the single-vehicle collision.

Robert Watkins, 65, from Abergavenny, died in the crash.

A family tribute read: "A much loved family man who lived for farming and his children, known to all as Spuddy.

"His loss has left his family and friends heartbroken."

The road reopened at 09:10 but it led to hold-ups for people travelling to the Royal Welsh Show, in Powys.
