Merthyr Mawr minibus flood rescue follows heavy rain

Five people had to be rescued after a minibus became stuck in floodwater in Bridgend county with parts of south Wales seeing more than two inches (51mm) of rain in 24 hours.

The incident in Merthyr Mawr village happened in the early hours.

Mumbles in Swansea recorded 52mm of rain and its wettest 24-hour period so far this summer.

"We had more rain last night than the whole of July put together," said BBC Wales forecaster Behnaz Akhgar.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent three fire crews to the flooding incident.
