Severe warning of thunder and rain in south and mid Wales

A severe weather warning has been issued for south and mid Wales, with thunder and heavy rain creating a risk of flooding on Tuesday.

Some areas could see up to 30mm (1.1in) of rain, with outbreaks starting early and getting heavier throughout the day, overnight and into Wednesday.

Met Office guidance covers 16 local authority areas in south east, south west and mid Wales.

The yellow warning for rain follows a weekend of warm weather.

Areas covered by the warning are the Vale of Glamorgan, Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Swansea, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen.
