Two arrested in Home Office sex trafficking operation

A man and a woman have been arrested as part of an investigation into the alleged trafficking of Nigerian women into the UK for sexual exploitation.

The British man, 40, and a Nigerian woman, 23, were arrested in Lewisham, London, on Thursday morning.

The Home Office is investigating claims alleged victims were made to work at brothels in Swansea, Cardiff and London.

It says a number of woman are now being supported by officers.

The pair, who were questioned at Cardiff Bay police station on Thursday, were arrested on suspicion of trafficking, money laundering and the facilitation of illegal immigration.

Chris Foster, from the Home Office's criminal investigation team, urged any potential victims to come forward.
