A 19-year-old man has been cleared of causing the death by dangerous driving of a woman in Gwynedd.

Reece Childs, of Bala, denied racing another car when it lost control and crashed near Bala Lake, killing Lona Wyn Jones, 22, from from Dolgellau.

She was a passenger in a Ford Fiesta driven by Ian Edwards, 24, of Bala, who admitted death by dangerous driving in May 2012 and is awaiting sentence.

Caernafon Crown Court heard Mr Childs drove his Vauxhall Corsa "sensibly".

Miss Wyn Jones, who worked as a carer, was in the back seat of Edwards' Fiesta when it crashed on the A494 near Bala, ending up on its roof.

She suffered fatal head injuries and died at the scene.

Mr Childs told the jury he was driving his car "sensibly and at a safe speed" when he noticed another car behind him.

The prosecution claimed Mr Childs moved into the path of Edwards to stop him overtaking him and applied the handbrake resulting in the crash.
