Rihanna has started the UK leg of her Diamonds world tour with a performance in front of 60,000 fans at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

The stadium gates opened at 16:30 BST, with Rihanna taking to the stage shortly after 20:40.

Road closures during the evening led to some travel disruption in the city centre, and First Great Western ran five extra train services.

Cardiff is the first of five UK gigs for the Barbadian singer.

Traffic in and around the city centre built up ahead of the show, particularly on the A48 Western Avenue westbound, while vehicles queued on the exit slip road at Gabalfa,

Westgate Street, next to the stadium, was closed until midnight along with a number of other roads. However, traffic receded after the show.

Elsewhere, train operator First Great Western said it was running five extra services due to the concert - two from Cardiff to Swansea and three late night trains from Cardiff to Bristol Temple Meads.

Passengers had been warned to allow plenty of time to travel from Cardiff Central where a queuing system was put in place.

Cardiff council said the best way to travel was public transport or coach, adding it was running three park-and-ride services from Cardiff's International Sports Village, Cardiff City Stadium and county hall.
