The BBC's Children in Need appeal has raised more than £1.3m in Wales on a record night for the show.

Wales Today presenters Jamie Owen and Lucy Owen hosted coverage in Wales from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.

Welsh stars including comedian Rhod Gilbert, performer Connie Fisher and actress Eve Myles took part in the annual fundraiser.

The show raised a record on-the-night total of £26.3m across the UK.

Marc Phillips, head of BBC Children in Need in Wales, said: "At the close of a remarkable evening, this year's BBC Children in Need has set a new record of £26,332.334 across the UK, with an on-the-night total in Wales of £1,389,923, shattering previous records by a considerable margin.

"At a time of severe financial pressure on family incomes this is a remarkable result and testament to the huge generosity of the Welsh people."

He said that as a result of the fundraising, lives of young people under pressure would change for the better.

The aim of the night is to raise as much money as possible to help support children's charities across the country.
