Woman, 78, dies in crash between Glynogwr, Gilfach Goch

A 78-year-old woman has died following a collision involving a minibus and a goods vehicle in the south Wales valleys.

An air ambulance flew the minibus passenger to the University of Wales Hospital, Cardiff, following the incident at 1024 BST on Monday.

The A4093 between Glynogwr, Bridgend, and Gilfach Goch, Rhondda Cynon Taf, closed to allow investigation work.

A police family liaison officer is supporting the next of kin.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called after both vehicles left the road.

Seven fire engines - from Malpas, Barry, Bridgend, Pontypridd and Gilfach Goch - went to the scene.

South Wales Police said the drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.

Police are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who stopped to help at the time, to contact them. The goods vehicle involved was a white Volvo and the minibus was a white LDV.

Anyone with information is asked to ring the policing unit on 101, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
