Cleaning liquid spill at Wrexham food factory

Fire crews are dealing with a spillage of chemical cleaning liquid at a Wrexham food factory.

The alarm was raised at about 0900 BST after about 75 litres of the liquid was spilled at the Rowan Foods factory on the Wrexham Industrial Estate.

The firm produces chilled ready meals for major retailers.

A spokeswoman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the liquid was a "weak acidic solution" thought to include bleach and vinegar.

She said the spillage had been contained and cordoned off.

Three appliances and an environmental protection unit have been sent to the factory in Ash Road South.

Crews tackling the incident are wearing protective clothing and breathing equipment.

The spokeswoman said crews were working with the factory's health and safety team.

Environment Agency Wales has also been notified.
