Human remains found inside a tent at a quarry in the Highlands could be those of a man from the Stirling area.

The man's body was discovered on Sunday evening in a secluded area of Torvean Quarry on the south west side of Inverness.

Police are liaising with family members in the Central belt who have been advised of the circumstances.

Officers said formal identification was still required and would take some time to complete.

The man had not been reported as missing from his home area.

Police Scotland said the remains appear to have been there for several months or longer.

The tent was in a secluded area of the quarry and was a distance away from paths used by the public.
