T in the Park viral bottle attacker jailed
A man whose bottle attack on a T in the Park reveller went viral after being filmed on a mobile phone has been jailed for 13 months.
A court was told footage of Marius Bauba attacking Robert Large at the Strathallan festival last year was posted on Facebook.
The 23-year-old was arrested after both he and Mr Large were recognised in the seven-second clip.
Bauba, from Prestwick, admitted assaulting Mr Large to his injury.
Depute fiscal Robbie Brown told Perth Sheriff Court: "There was a posting on Facebook and it ended up on the Police Scotland Facebook page.
"The video shows a number of males near tents and a man is seen stumbling about. That is the complainer.
"The accused comes into view, appears to hold the complainer with one hand as he bends down to pick up a bottle and smashes it over the head of another person who stumbles towards the camera."
'Very serious incident'
Solicitor Tony Currie, defending, said: "He maintains that having become inebriated during this festival and becoming separated from friends he was disorientated and stumbled quite literally into an altercation between others.
"He became embroiled in this for what reason he cannot explain. It is very much a matter of regret for him.
"It is very fortunate the complainer only sustained scratches to his head.
"He recognises this was a very serious incident and it is fortunate it did not have more serious consequences."
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis jailed Bauba for 13 months and told him: "This is a serious matter. The video footage is eloquent as to what occurred.
"You have a previous conviction for assault."
