Balbeggie cannabis farm uncovered after water leak
A drug dealer whose cannabis farm was discovered after its watering system flooded the flat below has been jailed for 150 days.
Perth and Kinross Council officers who forced their way into Stephen Bowler's home in Balbeggie discovered cannabis plants worth more than £2,600.
Bowler, 27, admitted being concerned in the supply of the drug on 18 July last year.
He told the court he was using the drug himself and giving it free to friends.
Fiscal depute Jill Drummond told Perth Sheriff Court that eight plants were recovered, with a potential value of £2,612.
She said: "Perth and Kinross Council officers attended the property with joiners after a report from the occupier of the flat below that water was coming into their property."
The prosecutor said Bowler was traced shortly after midnight and found to be carrying five small bags of cannabis.
She said: "He stated it was for his own personal use and for giving away to friends.
"He clearly accepted he used it himself and if friends asked he would give them some, but did not receive any money."
Sheriff Fiona Tait told Bowler it was a "significant amount" and that she did not think there was any realistic alternative to a custodial sentence.
