Forfar father-of-two John Bowman scoops £10.3m lottery win
A Forfar father-of-two has won over £10.3m after hitting the jackpot in Saturday's National Lottery.
John Bowman, 59, said he celebrated the news by having a pint of beer in his local pub.
Mr Bowman was unveiled as the winner at a press conference in a five-star hotel near Glasgow.
The Lotto winner, who has two daughters, said he would not be returning to work and planned to buy a "place in the sun".
Mr Bowman, a former St Johnstone FC youth player, said: "I checked my numbers in the house on Sunday morning and thought I'd been lucky enough to win £10,000.
"I went over to a friend's so he could double check it for me and when he looked it up on his phone he realised it was actually 1,000 times that amount."
Mr Bowman then phoned his daughters Lisa and Emma to tell them the good news.
'Pint of beer'
He said: "I told them to sit down because I had some news for them, they didn't believe me at first.
"My first drink as a millionaire was still a pint of beer.
"The first thing I did was to look after my daughters and I will also be sharing some of my good fortune with family and friends."
Mr Bowman said he also planned a trip to the Monaco Grand Prix and confirmed he would not be returning to his job at a local ladder firm.
He said: "They are a lovely local family business. I've been in touch and they are all delighted for me but I won't be keeping on my job."
Mr Bowman bought his ticket from RS McColl on East High Street, Forfar.
The winning numbers from the Lotto draw on 16 April were 2, 5, 14, 42, 51 and 55 and the bonus ball was 54.
