A shop worker stole £2,500 from the till at the store where he worked in just a few weeks, a court has heard.

Arran Hill, 30, admitted an embezzlement charge at Dundee Sheriff Court over the crime, carried out between 1 June and 7 July last year.

The thefts took place at the Marks and Spencer in Dundee's Murraygate, where Hill was employed as a sales assistant.

Sheriff Tom Hughes deferred sentence until next month for social work background reports.

Fiscal depute Charmaine Gilmartin told the court CCTV footage was viewed after store managers noticed money was missing.

She said: "He was observed taking money from the tills in sums of around £100 to £150 at a time.

"He was interviewed by police and failed to give a reason as to why he was taking it."

Hill, from Dundee, pleaded guilty on summary complaint to a charge of embezzlement.
