A businessman who starred in Channel 4's Secret Millionaire series has appeared in court accused of attacking his partner.

Care home tycoon Tony Banks is alleged to have assaulted Kimblerley Anderson by hitting, slapping and kicking her.

The attack is said to have taken place at a house in Kirriemuir on 9 December last year.

The 54-year-old, of Kirriemuir, denied the charge during a hearing at Forfar Sheriff Court.

Mr Banks is a Falklands veteran and the founder of the Balhousie Care Group.

The charge alleged that the businessman assaulted Ms Anderson by throwing a mobile phone at her, striking and kicking her on the body and repeatedly seizing her by the hair.

He is further alleged to have repeatedly pulled her to the floor, repeatedly kneeled on her stomach, slapped her on the head, spat on her and seized her by the throat and compressed it, all to her injury.

Sheriff Pino di Emidio set a further pre-trial hearing date later this month and released Mr Banks on bail.
