A man and a woman have been ordered to stand trial for murder after a woman's remains were discovered in Montrose.

Prosecutors allege Steven Jackson and Michelle Higgins repeatedly struck Kim MacKenzie on the head with a hammer and struck her on the neck with a knife.

Mr Jackson, 39, and 28-year-old Ms Higgins made no plea when they appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court.

Police cordoned off several areas of Montrose after the discovery of body parts two weeks ago.

The pair are alleged to have killed the 37-year-old at Mr Jackson's flat in Market Street some time between 26 October and 4 November.

The accused both face a single charge of murder. They appeared in private at separate hearings.
