Police probe after seven charity clothes banks raided

Police are investigating a spate of thefts from charity clothes banks across Forth Valley.

Seven units in Alloa, Stirling, Falkirk, Grangemouth, Bainsford and Stenhousemuir were emptied between 6 May and 4 July.

Thieves damaged the locks on the bins so the clothes inside could not collected, before returning and emptying them.

Officers have appealed for witnesses and information.

Sgt David Ferguson of Forth Valley division urged residents to report suspicious activity seen around clothing banks, which are mostly situated outside large supermarkets and in retail parks.

He said: "The clothes within these bins were intended for charity but may now be sold on for profit.

"We are currently trying to establish whether all of these incidents are linked and would urge anyone with information relevant to our investigation to get in touch."
