Van driver approached 10-year-old girl in Forfar

Police in Angus are searching for a white van driver who approached a 10-year-old girl in Forfar.

The incident happened in Westfield Loan, near its junction with Old Halkerton Road, on Wednesday at 17:40.

The child was riding a yellow and black scooter when the van pulled up beside her and the driver attempted to engage her in conversation before driving off.

The driver is described as bald or with short hair and had a long dark full beard. He was aged about 60.

Officers said the driver was also wearing dark framed glasses and a checked shirt.

'Good intent'

Investigators said the van was small and "very dirty" with smear marks down the side and a small dent in the rear passenger side.

The rear doors of the vehicle had black handles, with one hanging off. A newspaper was sitting on the dashboard at the passenger side.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland Tayside Division said: "'Officers returned to the area last night to carry out checks on vehicles travelling through the area.

"Letters have also been sent to local residents making them aware of the incident and appealing for any information from them.

''We would very much like to trace the driver of this vehicle in order to establish the nature of his business in the area and whether this may be a false alarm with good intent or something else.''
