Police have seized heroin with an estimated street value of £200,000.

Officers from Aberdeen, Dundee and Fife raided five addresses in Arbroath and Dundee as part of a three-month investigation into organised crime.

They said the class-A drug was found in one of the properties, with evidence of drug abuse and criminality in others.

The force said that at least four people were due to appear at Arbroath Sheriff Court on Thursday,

A number of others have also been arrested and detained.

The officer leading the operation, Ch Insp Gordon Milne, said: "We have been working on Operation Shrug for the last three months and today is the culmination of that hard work to build intelligence, identify people involved in this evil trade and to take enforcement.

''I have no tolerance whatsoever for people who deal in drugs. They are responsible for misery, death and harm within our communities and Police Scotland will take every conceivable opportunity to disrupt their vile activities."
