Alloa woman, 80, targeted by bogus workmen

Bogus workmen have targeted an 80-year-old woman at her home in Alloa, conning her out of more than £1,000.

Central Scotland Police said the two men arrived at the woman's home at about 13:30 on Tuesday. One of them distracted her while the other gained access to the house.

After they left, the woman found a four-figure sum of cash had been taken.

The men were described as having local accents and were "not of scruffy appearance".

Officers said the taller of the two was described as being between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall, of medium build, clean shaven, with short light brown hair. He was wearing dark clothes.

The men were seen driving a dark blue Mitsubishi 4x4.

A Central Scotland Police spokeswoman said: "This is not the first report of bogus workmen targeting the elderly. We advise that you always verify identification.

"If you have somebody cold calling and asking to come inside your house for any reason and are suspicious, do not allow it and contact the police."
