Dundee heroin drug mule jailed for one year

A Dundee mother-of-three who secreted more than £10,000 worth of heroin inside her body while acting as a drugs mule has been jailed for a year.

Amanda Fleming, 23, had enough heroin hidden inside her to fill more than 1,000 bags of heroin.

She and her minder David Courtney, 32, were stopped and subjected to a search by Tayside Police after a visit to Liverpool .

Courtney was jailed earlier this week for two and a half years.

Fleming and Courtney went to Liverpool to pick up the consignment of heroin to distribute in Dundee and were stopped in a taxi on the way back from Liverpool.

At Perth Sheriff Court yesterday, Fleming was jailed for a year after Sheriff Robert McCreadie gave her a discount for pleading guilty and giving Crown evidence.

The court was told that Fleming had given birth to her third child just over a month ago and that the baby had already been taken into foster care while she was on remand.

Sheriff McCreadie said: "I am satisfied you were used as a mule to carry heroin inside your body from Liverpool.

"The fact is you did conceal heroin worth £10,500.

"That was enough heroin to flood the streets of Dundee with 1,050 deals."
