Tayside drugs squad makes £100,000 haul

Police have seized cocaine with a street value of more than £100,000 after an off duty officer spotted a suspicious car.

The officer alerted colleagues after he saw the car at about 1900 GMT on Wednesday heading north on the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen road.

Police stopped the vehicle at Finavon and discovered counterfeit money and about a kilo of cocaine.

A 45-year-old man from Manchester was arrested in connection with the find.

He is expected to appear at Forfar Sheriff Court on Friday.

Det Insp Mike Pirie, head of Tayside Police's drugs branch, said: ''This was a significant recovery of class A drugs and further underlines the dedication of Tayside Police and all our officers in tackling the menace of drugs in our force area.

''The dealing and misuse of any drugs harms our communities, as it hurts communities throughout Scotland and the UK. We are determined to do all that we can to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities."

Det Insp Pirie appealed to anyone with information about drug dealers to contact police.
