Man, 85, dies after car hits police Land Rover

An 85-year-old man has died after his vehicle hit a stationary police car on the A9, south of Perth.

Michael Agnew, of Darroch Way, Cumbernauld, was killed in the accident at Cairnie Braes on Wednesday evening.

Officers were dealing with an incident on the northbound carriageway near the Aberuthven junction when their marked police car was struck from the rear.

Tayside Police said Mr Agnew died at the scene and two officers were treated for minor injuries.

The road was closed for a number of hours but opened again at about 0315 GMT on Thursday.

A full report on the incident will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
